Thanks for all the great scoop, ChicagoFats. Reads like Conroy novel. Is the investigation taking any turns? Will any of this ever be made public? You know these small towns can bury things forever…

edit to add: what is your opinion on the Murdaugh connection perhaps to Stephen Smith’s death back in 2015? Is it true he and Buster were “mates?”

I was about to ask how you were associated or if you were an Attorney yourself
Far from an attorney!!! Just another keyboard warrior. But my sister was married to Alex Murdaughs first cousin (user @murdaugh on Clemson rivals). It was family property and when it was his families turn to use the property (Chechessee river house) I got to go down there occassiinally. Never did make
It to Moselle.

The river house was not very nice, there were actually two houses (I’d almost describe them as crappy) and a shed type deal play beer pong etc. however, the property itself had to be worth tons of money. It was its own little island at a prime location on the river. They had several boats there, only one of which was worth considerable value in my opinion.
We haven’t talked much since they have been divorced but things are still cordial, ran into him a few weeks ago and exchanged pleasantries

I don’t mean to hijack the thread but I was just in Beaufort last week. Had the best cot damn shrimp & grits in my life. Seemed like a really nice area. Wife wants to buy a condo down there. Good idea/bad idea?
Great idea, but the market down here has just exploded in the last 6 months so be careful about what you buy.

I'd suggest VRBO and check out a place in Palmetto Bluff. Place is incredible and within 30 minutes or so of Beaufort. Its a lot more expensive than Beaufort so maybe not a place to move to, but its a place you should check out for a long weekend if you enjoyed Beaufort

So it was the grandfather, right?

All the TV I have watched tells me it is someone close to the family. Suspects have to be

1) Grandpa (Randolph)
2) Dad (Alex)
3) Son / brother (Buster)

I was originally strong on the grandfather theory, but im kind of switching over to the Buster did it theory.

What are your thoughts?

What's the over/under on how long until they sell their story to netflix to make a miniseries? I bet by the end of next year, it will be streaming.

It could be, but im against that theory for several reasons.

The Beach family by all means are good church going, God-fearing people. Justice, albeit slow, was working and they were going to get their day in court.

With the Murdaughs, where there is smoke there is fire. In my mind, I think Paul killed the gay kid. I also think he pushed the maid down the stairs. He had a lot of enemies as well did the Dad. Having a lot of power, and they absolutely had it, probably made them a lot of enemies so it could be that angle too.

I also think the fact that the Grandpa (think Mob boss-ish) was on his death bed when this all happened. Direct instructions from the Murdaughs "If you get in trouble, call Randolph. Don't call 911, call Randolph." I was told this on multiple occasions. It was Randolphs legacy that Paul fucked up. The grandpa had solved every legal problem he ever had faced in his life ..... until this one. My point is, the motive is strong.

Could the grandpa have ordered a hit? You better believe he had the connections. Could Alex and Grandpa coordinated to pull this off? You better believe it.

Motive for family is just too strong for me to be looking elsewhere. Guess time will tell.

You can get double for what you pay for there in nmb, and calabash and Murrells lnlet are very close if it's seafood you want.

I like this theory.

Girl’s family or friend doing it is to straightforward and almost too easy to pin on them.

We have all that.

I grew up going to the south end, Garden City specifically. Never went north of MB until recently. My aunt bought a condo at the far north end of Cherry Grove. That is a great area, NMB & Cherry Grove. If you cross the border, I'd include the Little River area as well.

And the area between Garden City and Cherry Grove?

Meh. You have Surfside and Myrtle beach. Both crowded and not my favorites. Myrtle Beach has alot of violent crime right now. Even Garden City is not quiet like it was when I was a kid, but guess that's about every beach. If I was looking at the grand strand, it'd be Cherry Grove, or Pawley's Island or S. Litchfield...but my poor ass can't afford any of them, so take it fwiw. Not sure Pawleys or Litchfield are cheaper than beaufort, either.
