You can always tell the real in country vets from never set foot types. The word is French from old Indo China Days and left over due to the population being so mixed after decades. It is still mixed with French and Chinese blood lines. Beaucoup or a great Quantity in meaning. I was there 3 years before I finally figured out all the slang was actually French and not Vietnamese.
