Not everyone that opposes support for Ukraine is comparable to Putin but anyone that opposes supporting Ukraine is at least parroting Russia / communist propaganda. If someone opposes the war in Ukraine do you automatically compare them to Putin?
Even if they oppose it because they think it's a terrible waste of spending, that the war has nothing to do with the USA because Ukraine is not a member of NATO and should not be, and that the war needlessly provokes a military response from Russia?
Or do you think the only way to hold a fair and balanced viewpoint is to be pro-war?
The highlighted talking points are straight from the Kremlin and are objectively against US interests.
I’m definitely not “pro war”. I’d love to see Russia withdraw from all of Ukrainian territory, pay reparations, and have its participants face war crimes trials so that this conflict can end but we can be sure that dictator Putin won’t allow such actions while he is still being propped up by the FSB.
With that in mind we shouldn’t be shy about the fact that we are watching the complete destruction of the Russian state. Russia was in demographic collapse before the war and now Russia’s last generation of young men are lying dead in Ukrainian fields. The Russian Ruble is in free fall just like the rest of the Russian economy. Furthermore, Russia has turned themselves into a pariah state with their geopolitical soft & hard power evaporating rapidly. Lastly, the brain drain on Russia has been crippling by even the most modest of measures.
All this is to say that America is taking its longest running enemy off the board for what equates to a little more than pocket change (150B) while also getting to reinforce the rules based world order which is devastating to China’s long term aspirations. This is something all Americans can be proud of and that makes the rest of the world a much safer place.
