Nobody wants to work. We have raised our starting pay twice since 2019. Hard to make a house when everyone want to do the designing and nobody want to drive a nail.
When the average take home pay is something like 39k, then you factor in the cost of student debt, apartment rent, healthcare, ridiculous cash for clunkers driven auto costs... stagnated wages aren’t cutting it anymore.

The fact that 600$ a week in government cheese is even remotely desirable for folks as opposed to their wage is a sad indictment on our society.
My wife's mom made over 3.5M in total compensation last year and didn't work a day outside of the house. She works for a company that pays people 12 an hour for many position in store.
This isn't difficult to figure out. Make shit here and pay laborers.

Went from $17 to $18.73/hr plus incentive. Someone with just a hs degree and a good work ethic could make $23/hr pretty easy after a month. 3 years ago that would of been considered a real good wage around here. We were $15/hr in 2019 and didn't have a problem hiring people... retention sucked but we could hire. Now you can't even get people to show up to an interview.
I value laborers more than I value people with most college degrees.
Guys in the steel mills around here make 23$ and I feel so bad for them. I couldn't imagine doing that work for that little of pay.

I think it’s a situation of where they are over hiring because the demand is there but their inputs are running shortages because everything has been shut down for a year plus now. Supply chains should be screwed up after this nonsense.

We can’t get employees to show up. We’ve had 15 year manufacturing employees just refuse to come in but still expect to get paid. It’s fucking ridiculous that so many expect to have everything given instead of wanting to earn it.

You don’t have 2 weeks much less a month or better to wait on a part. You have to have it now and have to be able to have a reliable source.

It doesn’t really matter. Work is work. A lot of PT folks have multiple PT jobs.
The construction industry has pretty much fucked itself. When I started the laying tile in the late 90's, the setters were making 20-22/hr. Now they pay 16-18/hr. You have to supply your own vehicle and tools. GTFOH. People can sit on their asses in the marijuana industry for those wages.
I see old customers/colleagues occasionally, and it is always the same story.... where did all the good workers go? Back when you were doing this, there were always a couple of elite craftsmen & hustling apprentices around town in various trades. Now, if it isnt a licensed trade, it is dicey at best.

Anecdotal I know, in our small town as of today two of the fast food restaurants have gone back to drive through only & limited menus after being fully open since last June. Signs on both state it is due to a lack of help with help wanted signs at both locations.

This is the case in most fast food restaurants around atlanta, or at least in the suburbs where since public transportation or transportation costs makes it difficult to find cheap labor.
