Thread Prefixes

What are Thread Prefixes?

Thread prefixes are visual labels that sit next to a thread title. They serve two main purposes:
1. Organization: They tell you exactly what a thread is about before you even click on it.

2. Navigation: They act as "smart filters," allowing you to sort the forum to see only the specific topics you care about.

How to Use Thread Prefixes

•Applying a Prefix
: When starting a new thread, click the (Add prefix) dropdown menu to the left of the Title bar and select the prefix category that best fits your topic.

Filtering by Prefix Category: There are three ways to view threads of a single category:
1. The Navigation Menu: Open the 'Categories' tab in the top/or side nav menu and select one of the prefix tabs to quickly open a filtered list of it's threads.
•Mobile-Location: Side Nav Menu

•Desktop-Location: Top Nav Menu

2. The Filter Tool: Click the 'Filter' button at the top of any thread list and select your desired prefix to filter out all the other prefixed threads from the list.

3. Quick Click: Click on any thread prefix badge (e.g., [Sports]) while browsing the forum to immediately open a list of threads with that prefix.

TFSF's 10 Thread Prefix Categories

The "LAC" Volumes Prefixes: Because our most popular LAC thread grew so fast, we now cap LAC threads at 1,000 pages and create fresh threads to continue the LAC discussion as subsequent volumes (currently up to volume 2) to keep the site running smoothly.
1. LAC Vol. 1: Dedicated to the original 9,000+ page LAC mega-thread (now locked/read only).

2. LAC Vol. 2: Dedicated to the current, active LAC discussion thread.

Community Topic Prefixes:

3. Social: For casual chats, personal intros, hobbies, humor, and "shooting the breeze."
4. Debate: For politics, religion, philosophy, and controversial issues where the goal is to argue a position.
5. Media: For movies, music, TV, gaming, art, and literature.
6. News: For current events and real-time headlines. Please provide a source link where possible.
7. Sports: For all things athletic—scores, team rivalries, and draft talk.

Administrative & Utility Prefixes:

8. Rebarcock.: A legacy/memorial archive prefix for all original threads created by founding member Patt "Rebarcock." Flood.

9. Resource: This prefix covers "how-to" guides and practical advice. While these are often community-contributed, this prefix is Admin-managed to ensure only genuine resources are tagged.
10. Official: Reserved strictly for formal admin communications, site rules, and forum updates. (*UPDATE: Moved the 4 'Official' prefixed threads (Rules, Guides, Updates, and the Patreon subscription thread) into a separate storage forum node so they don't clutter up the general forum thread list & widgets. Now these 4 official threads are only accessible directly via their respective public navigation tabs. The Rules, Guides, and Updates threads are linked to tabs by the same titles found under the Info section and the Patreon subscription thread is linked to a tab titled Become a Patron located under the Support Free Speech section.

Thread Management

1. The 1,000-Page Limit
To maintain site speed and database stability, all threads reaching 1,000 pages (approx. 20,000 posts) will be locked, and continued as a "part 2" with a fresh thread.

2. The "Part 2" Transition
When a thousand page thread is locked, the community is encouraged to start a "part 2" to continue the discussion. This keeps the "active" data lean and the site snappy for mobile users.

3. Media Embed Discipline:
To prevent page lag, data-heavy "junk" clogging the feed, and the inevitable piles of broken embed links to deal with. Posts are limited to 1 external media embed (X, YouTube, etc.) each.

4. Why?
We prioritize a functional, fast forum over bloated "mega-threads" that hog the site's resources. It’s about keeping the stadium standing so the game can keep playing.
