The situation in downtown Los Angeles has reached a critical flashpoint. As of 6:09 PM PST on Friday, January 30, 2026, the LAPD has officially declared a citywide tactical alert following violent clashes between "ICE Out" protesters and federal agents.
After thousands marched through the city, a large group of protesters settled outside the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building.
In a high-tension move captured on video, a portion of the crowd pushed a large construction dumpster in front of the loading dock entrance to block federal operations.
Protesters reportedly threw debris, bottles, and other objects at federal agents in riot gear, while others vandalized parts of the federal complex.
Federal authorities have declared an Unlawful Assembly at the Detention Center and have deployed tear gas and pepper balls to push back the crowd.
LAPD Force Deployment
The "tactical alert" means all LAPD officers are required to remain on duty regardless of their schedules to manage the mounting unrest.
Dozens of LAPD officers have formed skirmish lines around the federal building, slowly pushing the crowd away from intersections to restore traffic flow for stalled buses.
Police have issued a final dispersal order, warning all individuals to leave the Alameda Street area or face immediate arrest.
