I was born in a country where no one, not even in their worst nightmares, imagined Iran would become the Islamic Republic.
By the age of two, I was growing up in England.
I’ve seen this movie before. Personally.
Today, we joke and call London Londonistan. We joke and call Britain the Islamic Republic of Britain. But jokes are how denial makes itself tolerable. Look at France. Look at Germany. Look at Europe as a whole.
This does not happen overnight. It happens through appeasement. Through the comforting lie that it can’t happen here. Through giving an inch and watching it become a mile.
Look at England. There is a Muslim mayor in nearly every major city. Political power has shifted quietly, steadily, and decisively. Criticism is no longer debated. It is policed.
Look at how British authorities treated the British-Iranian diaspora when they protested against the Islamic Republic.
Anti-regime protesters were beaten, kettled, and arrested. Some were detained while wounded — pulled out of hospitals. Meanwhile, regime sympathizers operated with near impunity.
Look at what happened to Tommy Robinson.
Look at the grooming gangs that were ignored for years because speaking the truth was deemed “offensive.”
This is how it works: the state doesn’t need to agree with Islamism. It only needs to fear being called intolerant. And don’t tell yourself this is just a European problem.
In the United States, organized groups have been pushing for Sharia courts in Texas and Arizona for years. Quietly. Incrementally. Always framed as harmless. Always sold as “cultural accommodation.”Then there’s Mamdani, the normalization. The acceleration. The proof of how fast the Overton window moves once appeasement becomes policy.
One day, your voice is still there. The next, it’s gone, pulled out from under your feet. And only then do people look back and say, there were signs.
Yes. There were signs. You just chose to ignore them.
People like me keep saying this because we’ve already lived it. We know how it ends. If you think you can look away and believe it will never happen where you live, that is exactly where the danger begins. We’ve seen this movie before. Wake up!!
