𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐌𝐒 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐀? 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐒? 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐅𝐀𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍
Every once in a while you hear a claim so 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐞 that you have to stop and ask yourself:
“𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐲? 𝐎𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥?”
This one falls firmly into the second category.
A woman is now claiming — with a straight face — that 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚, converted the Cherokee Nation to Islam, called the adhan from the mountains of North Carolina, wore hijabs, prayed five times a day…
…and that the U.S. government was imprisoning Cherokees 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝟏𝟗𝟎𝟓.
𝘕𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦.
𝘗𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘺.
𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴.
Here’s what actually happened — according to 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲, 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟:
• The Cherokee were 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦
• They were 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬
• They were 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐝𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐬
• They did 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐣𝐚𝐛𝐬
• 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞-𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐬
There is 𝐧𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥, 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜, 𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 — 𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐞 — supporting this.
Not in Cherokee oral tradition.
Not in archaeological sites.
Not in anthropological texts.
Not in Spanish contact records.
Not in colonial archives.
This woman is literally 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 to declare:
“𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐬.”
Because if you can invent a past, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐚 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞.
𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬.
Not because it’s true, but because 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥.
And the irony?
While she’s claiming Muslims were peacefully converting Native Americans centuries ago…
the actual 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is busy trying to preserve the 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧 that actually existed before Europeans arrived.
𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 “𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲.”
𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 and replacing it with a feel-good fantasy no historian on earth takes seriously.
In short:
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐤𝐓𝐨𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲.
And the fact anyone believes it shows just how desperately some people want to 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭.
