It’s incredible how perspective on salaries changes as we get older. I remember my dad was astonished at how much starting salaries were in 1980.

After my father passed I found some of his old stubs from the 60's/70's. Union welder for GE in Schenectady, worked some weekends on a farm in the summer (grew up on one), and sometime milkman before going to work and to this day I have no idea how a family of four, fairly new house, took vacations and lived fairly comfortable on that amount of money. They make much, much more than in other countries. Also, the salaries in the healthcare industry pull people into looking for money who don't even really want to be doctors and are shitty doctors as a result.
