Hate to see this. We had our fair share but not the deaths last month.

There are some places in the interior you do not want to be left out in the elements in for 10 minutes. Summer bogs with bears,wolves and mosquitos the size of small birds. In the winter you have zero chance without seriou winter gear and survival techniques. Also literally hundreds of miles of nothingness. Great places if you ask me. Skol!

I am too old to experience that but I like watching the Alaska reality show and see how they do things that help their coping with those extremes.

The most real of those reality shows is Deadliest Catch. Those fuckers work their ass off and are legit crazy. Went fishing a couple of times with one of the brothers of the Time Bandit. He is usually not on the boat or show. He basically runs the backend business. Making sure the boat is working all year long. They are pretty well off and that family owns the whole Homer Spit. Anyway, dude shows up in torn sweat pants, dirty t-shirt and 8 bud heavies in a plastic bag. Smoked a whole pack of Marlboro reds and was a fucking riot. The family has a fish camp on the other side of the inlet from Homer. They get shitty and start shooting AKs and raising holy hell. The Hildebrands. The guy i fish with grew up in Homer and his old man taught at Homer High. He said his dad would come home and complain that he couldn't get through to the Hildebrand boys. Joe was saying, 'dad, they make 75k working their dad's boats you ain't never reaching them'. Fast money earned hard and they live hard. I thought shrimpers were rough. Holy shit!

The one thing about all these shows in Alaska or elsewhere like the Maine Cabin Masters is they are being paid, and paid well, by the producers. No way the Maine people can totally fix up a cabin with 5-6 carpenters or others for $20,000 that some of the owners say they have for the work. Salaries alone for 3 months work would eat up $20,000.
