Marines can deploy from other bases then come to 29 Palms. Then they deploy as a group from 29 Palms. I know a friend of my brother who is a Sargent Major I believe who just got called up to go to Cali. He is stationed in Albany Georgia. He is a logistics coordinator or something. Basically I think the Marines transfer in to one base- then deploy from that base.
I wouldn't swear this is the gospel buy I'm pretty sure this is how it works and could explain some confusion on the deployment
