• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Think Mirror. Wash Post trying to drum up sales from conservatives. This was prob the Seuss strategy too. It works every time
So Now naming something after something isnt an honor? Ok well get rid of all the names and well just name them after all the white people. We dont care and accept the honor. there will be nothing remembered of the blacks and Indians. Somebody needs to step in and tell these nerds to quite speaking for them

Does anyone view this as significant?

Seems like pandering and produce for the pundits...

Pubs get to claim REFORM, "see the system works, vote, and vote for our candidates"

Dems scream "Racism, voter suppression, Jim Crow"

On the very, very bright side I think alot of people are tuning this bull shit out
Until the election is one day only, paper ballot with mandatory picture ID, nothing will change.

State governments need to take control of how voting operates in their state so this is good. There should be similar types of laws passed in every single state who values election integrity. California and New York can do whatever they want with their laws, but let’s all remember that makes any talk of national popular vote totals complete garbage.

Wonderful but sadly obvious article

I'd love to see red states go after federal tax laws the same way they are making federal laws surrounding 2A bunk.

I live between Woodstock and Canton, have many friends and clients there. Looking at land to build on in a few when we semi retire. Something overlooking mountains, water ect. My wife is from the Fla. panhandle so will be looking to there as well, not too far from each other.

Was just curious because my wife and I took an anniversary trip to the Blue Ridge area a couple of weekends ago. Drove through the areas a good bit when I was growing up but that marked marked first time staying there...The place is gorgeous!

I hate giving MLIVE clicks so here's the article. Thankfully we're still red in the house and senate to be able to keep our governors power somewhat in check.

LANSING, MI - Michigan senators bickered Wednesday over a resolution that would charge the state with defending the Second Amendment from any future federal gun control measures.

Senate Resolution 22, sponsored by Sen. Lana Theis, R-Brighton, seeks to “preserve the Second Amendment” by stating that the state Senate would oppose federal laws that “infringe on the right to bear arms.”

The resolution passed along partisan lines, 20-15, with Democrats uproariously opposing it. Sen. Erika Geiss, D-Taylor, called it “insurrectionist.”

“This resolution is four pages of dark, insurrection-laden language and militia support that challenges the laws of this land,” she said on the Senate floor. “It’s a resolution that says that if we don’t like the laws, we’ll meet you at the Michigan border with our guns. It’s incredible how fast you’ll do anything to protect your guns.”

Geiss continued by saying since armed protesters packed into the Michigan State Capitol on April 30, the Senate hasn’t done anything to improve security measures.

“We had rioters in this space up there,” she said, pointing to the upper deck overlooking the Senate floor, “hovering over with with firearms, literally telling us, ‘we’re here to make sure you vote right.’ On April 30, 2020, a day that has gone down in international infamy. Nothing, nothing meaningful was done to address that.”

The State Capitol Commission banned the open carry of firearms after a push from Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake, but Democrats from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to Attorney General Dana Nessel argued the action fell short.

Sen. Jeremy Moss, D-Southfield, echoed the sentiment and went further by connecting right-wing extremist behavior to Republican rhetoric.

“There’s a line in this resolution that says, ‘The Michigan Senate is firmly resolved to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against every aggression either foreign and domestic.’ That’s patently false,” Moss said. “The last several months here, there has not been an attempt by the majority in this chamber to protect many of us from domestic aggression. When you go to the gallery to pal around with armed gunmen during the height of an armed mob in our building, and those men are later charged with a plot to overthrow this government and to create mass death in this building, you are not defending the Constitution from every aggression, foreign or domestic.”

The resolution invokes the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states the federal government only derives power from provisions listed in the Constitution. For everything not listed, state governments maintain power to create laws.

Federal laws that “restrict or prohibit the manufacture, ownership and use of firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition exclusively within the borders of Michigan,” would exceed federal authority, the resolution states.

Theis found Geiss’ comments “extraordinarily frustrating” for comparing defense of the Second Amendment to “insurrection.”

“I’m extraordinarily frustrated right now with the use of the word insurrection and conversations about things that the Founding Fathers vested with us with the God-given right to protect ourselves,” Theis said. “We’re going to call this insurrection to uphold that? Our Second Amendment rights not only exist in the U.S. Constitution, but the state Constitution, as well.”

Geiss responded by implying the Founding Fathers were racist and sexist, and that Theis shouldn’t “get all weepy and nostalgic” about men that wouldn’t have allowed women or minorities to serve with them.

“There’s a whole bunch of us serving right now that the Founding Fathers wouldn’t have wanted in this chamber, or any other for that matter,” Geiss said.

Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Vulcan, said that gun legislation isn’t a priority of his, but he felt it necessary to speak to the body about easing the increasingly intense tone of the argument.

“I think it is an issue that we have to have a calmer discussion on, because there’s obviously so much passion and opinions on it,” he said. “As (Sen. Moss) said, context is important. Things don’t happen in a vacuum. I respect that... but we need to also recognize there’s other context and things are not in a vacuum, either, when talking about those that would attack Second Amendment rights.”

McBroom referred to President Joe Biden, who pledged during his campaign to hold gun manufacturers liable for their products, ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and enact a universal background check system. Additionally, U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., recently introduced the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021 that would require a background check on every gun sale.

No one who supports regulating firearms wants to randomly take people’s guns away, Geiss argued.

It is unclear if the House will take up the resolution, or if it does, when the vote would take place.

It's a step in the right direction especially for a purple state.

Still plenty of time to reform more.

We've got a couple years still before we'll really know how things are going to look for the big one in 24.

So...since we are living in the world of “Cancel Culture,” should “The Rest of Us” start asking for the cancellation of all the perverse things that don’t align with our beliefs? Should we throw away our “thick skin” and join in with all the perpetually butt hurt little pansies? Just asking for a friend...
Idk if cancellation is the word I'd use but we need to stop playing defense by always just defending against their never ending attacks and instead go after them and their bullshit!

WTF is wrong with people? I grew up in athletic locker rooms that taught you to have a thick skin and to learn how to get along. That type mentality has apparently left the planet in a colossal fashion.
Coach used to lock us in the locker room and tell us to settle it and not to try to come out until it was settled back when we had disagreements in the team.

Worked out just fine. Nobody ever dragged their ass to the principal's office, hospital, or police station afterwards cuz we were taught respect for ourselves and each other.

I remember the same...I can remember that even in Gym Class that guys would occasionally get a little heated and the doors of the gym would be locked and Coach would throw them the boxing gloves and let them beat the hell out of each other.

We know the man is a terrible legislator on the wrong side of every major issue for the past 47 years. We also know he is a horrible father who raised complete losers for children. Now we know the man can't even raise a fucking dog properly. But he's the most popular President ever and stuff. This is a complete fucking clown show all the way around. Please make it stop.
