• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Do not install an app on your phone to find Bluetooth devices. They can not be trusted with the access you will need to grant them. They will have access to all your bluetooth cameras, microphones, tracking devices, and mobile devices.

Are they going to use it against you? Are they going to sell this access? If they are legit, are they going to get hacked? Will access to your Bluetooth cameras with audio from your Alexa be sold on the Dark Web? YES

You can buy a non connected Bluetooth scanner if you need. Just search “Bluetooth scanner” on your search engine of choice. I don’t think this is necessary.

The next upgrade included in IOS 15.2 includes the ability to find AirTag devices that may be tracking you.

FYI

Criminals are putting these AirTags on cars in Shopping centers/malls to track and then rob them on their way home or when they are home.

The criminals have some kids that hang out at the mall entrances/exit. Just kids on skateboards. The kids watch for women to leave the mall with bags that have “expensive” logos.

The kids skateboard, in a playing way, to follow the woman to her car. She has no idea. Quick stick of an Airtag to any part of the car.

Then, the guys that pay the kids to do this, they follow you home.

Lessons learned:

1) Dont take smoke breaks in Puerto Rico at night in front of a road.

2) a pistol in appendix carry isn’t a good option there - wear body armor at all times and have a fully automatic rifle on your person at all times.

3) never fucking visit Puerto Rico… Like ever…

Carry on.

I have been to San Juan and it is my favorite Caribbean city by a mile. Such a fun city and the people are absolutely fantastic. Some of the nicest I have ever been around.

I have only been to the Old Town section where the cruise ships let off, but it was a really cool city. Lots of history and good bars and restaurants, walkable, friendly people, and generally felt safe. What was the name of that cool fort at the top of the hill?

Im sure its a little rougher outside the tourist zones though.

Fort Cristobal or something, we did the tour of both of the two forts and had a great time. Stopped at some little hole in the wall restaurant in old town and the food was phenomenal.

When I served on the Dallas Grand Jury we had a case where robbers followed wealthy women around in grocery stores just out of sight. Followed them to see what car they drove. Followed them home and pounced just after they drove in their garages and were unloading. None of the victims noticed. All said they looked for their keys while going to their cars and never looked around loading or unloading.

She's just relieved there's no vet at the WH anymore since joe's dogs got the boot.

^^not to worry, we have freaks and geeks in charge^^

Few years ago they had gadgets that would read your garage door code when you opened your garage.
Probably still around.

Several people in my town have had their cars stolen while grocery shopping. The thieves had a scanning device that recorded the car codes when people used their FOBs to lock their cars when going into shop. Just programmed a new FOB and opened the door and drove off. They seemed to like Dodge Challengers.
