• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

ACLU Says Slow Joe Wasn't Briefed About The $450K Payout For Illegals.

WASHINGTON — In response to a question posed to President Biden about family separation lawsuits brought by the American Civil Liberties Union and other lawyers, the president said a $450,000 settlement amount per child “is not going to happen.”

ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero had the following response:

“President Biden may not have been fully briefed about the actions of his very own Justice Department as it carefully deliberated and considered the crimes committed against thousands of families separated from their children as an intentional governmental policy. But if he follows through on what he said, the president is abandoning a core campaign promise to do justice for the thousands of separated families. We respectfully remind President Biden that he called these actions ‘criminal’ in a debate with then-President Trump, and campaigned on remedying and rectifying the lawlessness of the Trump administration. We call on President Biden to right the wrongs of this national tragedy.”

NC Republicans are going for the jugular: the state senate-approved congressional map move NC from 8R-5D to 10R-3D-1C, dooming #NC06 Rep. Kathy Manning (D) and diluting the Black share in Rep. G.K. Butterfield's (D) #NC01 from 44% to 41% - which could end his career too.

NC's NAACP et. al. have already sued in state court to block it on basis of failing to consider race. Dems also likely to pursue a partisan gerrymandering claim in state court (but NC courts have crept right since 2019).

If this map stands, Dems are likely doomed here in 2022.

Update: in the last few minutes, NC's GOP legislature officially adopted this map, and Gov. Roy Cooper (D) has no veto power over maps. This plan is now law - and the stampede to the courthouse begins.

similar situation in Ohio too

In other news, Ohio Republicans appear to be pursuing a brutal 13R-2D gerrymander (up from 12R-4D today).

Some @davesredist analysis: 9 safe GOP, 2 safe Dem, four lean GOP with 1st congressional district the most competitive.

If enacted, this map would end #OH09 Rep. Marcy Kaptur's (D) career by flipping her seat red. It would also flip Rep. Tim Ryan's (D) open #OH13 red and eliminate retiring Rep. Anthony Gonzalez's (R) #OH16.

Pretty much the last remaining obstacle is the OH Supreme Court.

The only competitive district on this map would be GOP Rep. Steve Chabot (R)'s #OH01, where Cincinnati is required to be kept whole per Ohio's new rules. But if the 2022 environment is anything like we saw last night, Rs would stand a decent chance of keeping it.

NC & OH's brutal GOP gerrymanders drive home why redistricting is massively more consequential to partisan outcomes than changes to voting procedures, etc. - even though it gets less attention.

State court decisions over these two maps alone could decide 5-8 House seats.

Devolution right?

The long March is nearly complete

The purge of the officer ranks is basically complete, down the ranks right behind

But don't worry my friends, former Carlyle CEO Glenn "Not a Globalist" Youngkin is governor of Virginia and Durham is indicating the big dogs

Popcorn is at the ready*
