As I'm sure you know, all those white bands from back then do get shit for stealing black music- Led Zeppelin, perhaps most famously. As a massive Zeppelin fan, and huge blues fan as well, I see both sides of all that.

Mostly though, all musicians do it. All the blues guys ripped each other off long before rock & roll did it. At least they all make it their own, as did Zeppelin. The problem was that all the money was from white audiences, and they weren't spending it on blues. The Stones & LZ got filthy rich, while most of the blues guys died broke.

The Beatles did a lot of Motown songs. Smokey Robinson said they loved it when the Beatles did their songs, because they got lots of money.

I had a conversation with a friend/former colleague awhile back that is a coal trader. I asked how coal is going- he said he is busier and making more money than ever.
Short version. Instead of sending domestically- China/India is buying it all and his company went and bought transport allowing them to ship below normal freight to a country that doesn’t care about “climate”

I did the math when they bailed out Wall Street after the ‘08 collapse and determined they could have just given every household in the nation over $100,000 each (or something crazy like that) and let the people decide how to relive their debt to the corrupt banking system.
