• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Meanwhile my brother got shore leave in Bahrain (I’m sure everyone is jabbed there right?).

We did a video call while he was at the bar in the resort and he certainly wasn’t wearing a mask.

Me thinks y’all are getting a raw deal and some questions need asked if they are strictly enforcing that for you cuz it certainly isn’t happening that way across the board…
That Page 13 came from NorthCom. So CONUS, not overseas..but yes the Roosevelt didn't get one port call over 200 days at sea.

Another thing I’ll say about the military: especially when it comes to research and development. They have always been accustomed to relying on academic entities like universities and independent “think tanks” to help make objective decisions for them. MIT Lincoln labs, John Hopkins Applied physics lab, DARPA, etc.

There are a couple problems with this.

1. How government funding works, they are much more interested in securing funding than pushing the technology. It’s about business and getting money and lining the pockets of those in charge. In the think tanks, they will funnel money in certain directions so they will get lucrative contracting jobs when the leave.

2. You see how much social agendas are pushed on academia. Not only are the universities slanted to the left, but the students they are producing, especially on the east and west coast where a lot of the entities are, are slanted left because of their education.

So all the sudden it’s not about helping the war fighter. It’s about business and $$, and pushing agendas (which in the end is about $$)

So in the end OBJECTIVE opinions do not exist. When you have a good, honest engineer trying to really solve a problem, it gets squashed or manipulated up the chain so it feeds the beast

I get what you’re saying but DARPA is not a “think tank“. They’re very much an agency of the United States Department of Defense.

And they funded my graduate research for one of their projects to protect sensors from battlefield laser threats. It was a partnership with the Naval Research Lab, Army Research Office, and some other schools. Interesting stuff we were doing.

If anybody would like to read my work see below. It’s not particularly interesting, well-written or advanced scientifically (I was young, immature and I lost a lot of data due to files getting corrupted- which is why I finished with a MS and not a PhD) but it details some efforts of the early 21st century that were considered cutting edge, militarily, at the time.

Living in the northeast, this is a huge deal. Fortunately for people like myself that use a wood burning stove for the majority of their heat (I have 7 cord split and seasoned for this winter) , it won't be too bad, but I feel for those that don't and also can not afford to put oil in their tanks. Funny thing about that is most of those people are Brandon voters.
These is why we need two America’s. If you vote for shit head policies, that should be yours to bear. The whole nation shouldn’t be punished ruled under one set of policies.
