Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

The delta variant originated in population with a very low vaccination rate (India). Also, there is nothing about that graph that would indicate that vaccinated people are more prone to infection than unvaccinated people.
This is an interesting point, and one I've wondered about too. Wouldn't it be nice if our country's governments and health industry didn't completely ignore natural immunity? If this information was segmented out, it would tell us if the people with natural immunity (vaccinated or not) are doing better than vaccinated people. If what I believe about natural immunity is true (it's superior to vaccine immunity), then the vaccinated people who also have natural immunity would be skewing the numbers in a way to make you think the vaccines are effective at preventing severe infection and death. I don't think that skew would completely explain the differences in severe infection between vaccinated and unvaccinated populations, but it would reduce the "effectiveness" of the vaccines.
