• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

I would find that insulting. He’s saying you’re not doing good enough so he mows it for you. It puts pressure on you. What a weirdo.
It didn't bother me since I have seen him do this around the area since moving in 3-4 years ago. Yesterday was the first time he mowed my lawn. To be fair, he inquired about my health the day before (recovering from surgery and limited on activity) since I hadn't mowed over the weekend. Ironically, I had just bought gas for the mower and was planning on mowing yesterday. Saved me an hour. My grass wasn't high but had lots of leaves. He mows/sweeps up the leaves along the curbs notwithstanding we have a vacuum truck which comes by weekly to suck up the leaves this time of year. He's a good person but is anal about lawns and leaves.

Apologies for beating a dead horse, but how does that explain all the negative flu tests? It isn't like we are seeing a ton of positive flu tests, but the management is fudging the numbers when they report them. The flu really did seem to vanish last winter. No one lied about that for bribes or to fear monger, it actually happened.

I’m really starting to think it was released every year. I feel crazy saying but ……1633527213476.png

If you take away how crazy it sounds, that theory actually takes the least amount of assumptions. Almost every other thing I have heard does not fully explain what we saw with the flu. The only two theories I do not think have major holes are the one you mention, and social distancing & masks worked but I cannot buy that one.

In other news...

Illinois recorded its first human rabies case since 1954 recently. 80 y/o man awakened to find a bat sucking blood from his neck. Bat caught and tested positive for rabies. Man refused treatment and died a month later. Authorities found a colony of bats in his home.

Rabies has the highest mortality rate of any disease. Once symptoms appear it's too late. It is treatable if treatments start soon after exposure. If not, you will die. You will also be aware of what is happening as it happens.

A colleague and I did almost all the rabies testing in Texas for several years until I left the virus lab. We found lots of rabies in animals sent to us. Almost all skunks have rabies and can transfer rabies across the placenta to their offspring who are born with it. The reason Texas stopped the sale of descented skunks as pets in the 60's.

And the shots were painful.

Wasn't even a topic until Orange Man Bad came along and it will be around till Orange Man Gone and we know that ain't happening.
Has zero to do with Trump. It wasn't a topic because we weren't questioning it. We accepted the "science".

Fact is, many people dutifully take the flu shot every year with their physician's consent, even though the NIH's biggest ever study on the subject showed that flu shots haven't changed flu mortality rates at all.
