Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

All pandemic long, scientists brawled over how the virus spreads. Droplets! No, aerosols! At the heart of the fight was a teensy error with huge consequences.
Good article on the outdated and bogus 6 foot rule. The rule came from the 1930s-40s with tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a bacteria, large, and transmitted via respiratory droplets which land up to six feet away.
Recently, Many if not most respiratory viruses are thought to be aerosolized which means they are < 100 microns in size. The old still propagated rule said only those <5 microns are aerosolized.
So, You can catch Covid through cough, sneeze, hand shaking, but most importantly from it just floating in the air. Normal cloth and surgical masks work poorly because of the size of the gaps. N95s work because they stop the aerosolized virus and fit snugly.
With ideal conditions aerosolized stuff can float around a room for two hours. When the cdc said hepa filters and good circulation wasn’t needed they screwed up. If you want masks you are doing it wrong.
But trust the science. The CDC and NIH don’t care about being wrong. The policy makers make policy but can’t think on their own. No one corrects mistakes, admits they are wrong.

My place of employment is juggling whether or not to mandate the jabs. They sent us a questionnaire to gauge how people feel.
I feel like polling/voting has been rigged against our favor all over......then I say why shouldn't you folks help swing things in my favor, if you wouldn't mind. Thanks
