I had to switch to ID.me to gain access to any government database (Social Security, VA, etc.). It was a royal pain in the ass to do. I had to go to a UPS store and show 2 forms of ID to them. Then scan my docs and face for facial recognition and submit to ID.me.
I was told by SS that this was because of Covid---isn't that the new excuse---and everyone working at home. Apparently a lot of fraud being done, which coincides with what we are learning about gov't programs and money.
