I was watching the live feeds as all this happened that night. I haven't read all the court filings, but I think the bald midget pedo went nuts first because those guys were protecting the gas station he wanted to loot and burn, that's the outburst everyone saw with the racial epithets and 'shoot me' and what not.
Then, he went totally bonkers because some guys put out the fire in a rolling dumpster that he and another guy were trying to push to the gas tanks. I don't believe Rittenhouse was the one who put out the fire, but he was running to the fire with the an extinguisher, which caused the dwarf to target him and chase him. Seeing the other guys there, I think he singled out Rittenhouse because he was obviously younger and less threatening than the guys who put the fire out. He avoided the bigger guys who would have squashed him like the bug that he was and went after the teenager.
