Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

So, their point is that as long as this idea is supported by a simple majority, then 38% of citizens should have their personal healthcare decision rights vacated.

They figure there are about 20% of folks who care so it’s pretty easy choice in their mind. They try it and:
1- It hold up in court and he seems like a bold leader and wins votes and part of his approval back
2- It gets shot down and he can tie the SCOTUS to not caring about people and needing reform along with any Republican that opposes the move.
They see it as a win / win and great policy for the upcoming election where they were struggling to get voter enthusiasm.
They’ll simply claim the state has the right to regulate public health and that medical decisions are limited by public health policy. They’ll say it’s no different the laws or policy against spreading other viruses like HIV (easy example).
2nd amendment is under assault with this too because if this were to hold up in court nearly any right or policy could be enacted under the claims of public health. They tried this same approach to a lesser degree with court case earlier this year where the DOJ tried to claim cops could search people’s homes for guns without a warrant for public safety reasons.
