Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Not to go full nerd, and this is from the other side, but any "agreement" from an employer to employee needs consideration from the employer as well. They have to give you something in exchange for an employee doing something for them. Without mutual consideration it is not a legal agreement. Its like adding an arbitration agreement to an already employed worker without giving the worker anything in exchange (employee giving up his right to trial, etc.).

I have 8 of the 10 firefighters at my station currently unvaccinated by their choice. I have told them I will fight to the point they have to fire me to protect their right NOT to get it should my city choose to mandate the vaccine. Interesting times ahead.

This is very relevant to me. My oldest son is going to be committing to a college for basketball probably in about a month or so. I think I know where it’s going to be but I’m not 100% certain. It’s definitely one of two schools. Both offering full scholarships. He’s not vaccinated. But I know colleges are pushing like a motherfucker for students to be vaccinated. We will be going on official visits over the next few weeks starting when my wife and I get home from our anniversary trip to Mexico (leaving tomorrow). We are going to have to ask about his final two schools policies regarding vaccination on our visits. My son knows that we are vehemently against it and I think he understands why. But he also wants to play. So it’s very difficult. I’m trying to provide him with information such as what is in this particular study.

Thank you. Full disclosure, I am 1 of the 2 that are vaxxed, but I don't give a damn whether you want the jab or not, I have said from the start that people should be allowed to make the decision based on their own research or feelings about it. The county where my city is located is strongly considering firing up to 200 firefighters who don't want the vax. Probably because his wife, a state representative in FL, is pushing the vax. They are both mindless sheep but that is another story for another day. If my city brings that shit I have to stand up for my guys. I'll probably organize a sick out so they don't have to come to work. F it, I don't care. People should have the right to make that choice.
Put things in motion for a career change but don't be too hasty to decide as there are plenty of court challenges to come. Some say it could take a couple of months before these become law. If there are vociferous challenges, I suspect there will be, to any new federal regulations that will also take time to resolve. Be prepared just in case. And always have an up to date resume.

See, this is the type of thing that I cling to for hope. Devolution sounds like a stretch but this right here validates it IMO. Things are hopefully happening behind the scenes to help mitigate the damage POTATUS is doing.
