I meant after he got mashed with a shovel on the head. I don't have a fucking clue what kinda snake it is.Almost certain that is a fat copperhead.

Not a copperhead. Tail is too skinny, it’s too dark and it doesnt have those hourglass patterns.
eta: I’m thinking it’s a rat snake or corn snake
here’s one I killed a few years ago.

Ran into one of these just before Thanksgiving. Was getting firewood from a friend's ranch. Lifted the last log and there he was under it hibernating. Very docile due to cold weather but once the sun hit him he started moving around. Until my friend's 20 ga vaporized him.Nice. As already mentioned, that looks pretty non-venomous. A far cry from this-

That was the first and only copperhead I've seen in the wild in 70 years. Grandfather used to drop me off with a .22 rifle to shoot cottonmouths at one of the creeks on his ranch. I asked for a .410 but was told it was marksmanship training.I have only seen a few copperheads, and they were in my Dad's woodpile. We have those, and cottonmouths where I live, but it's the rattlesnakes that I worry about. Next door neighbor got a pretty bad bite by a canebrake last year at the bottom of her front step, spent 2 days in hospital & got several doses of anti-venom.
I have only seen them dead in the road, but have seen some fatass diamondbacks just a few miles from home. I worry about my dogs finding one of those, or a canebrake.
It keeps all the pussies up north, out of God’s country. Why does nature get scarier the further south you go?

Anti-venom is not cheap!
