• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

71% of Dims supposedly think

Except it's not.

We're a socialist welfare state.
I dislike welfare as much as the next guy.

Welfare is dished out based on income levels.

If folks, laborers especially, made more then many folks wouldn't qualify anymore.

We're not talking about a government mandated minimum wage or something like that but instead businesses and individuals choosing to pay more for in demand skills and workers.

There was a labor shortage under Trump too (that was actually even worse by most metrics) so this isn't just something that can be fixed by cutting back the ridiculous unemployment benefits.

Starting with one: yes, I’m willing to pay more for an outstanding service and/or product. And I believe most people do. But if prices go up, I’m willing to go out to that place or buy their product unless I start making more.

Two: We all want those lazy SoB’s who barely do anything and get paid a shit ton out. But you’re looking at years and years of human conditioning to eliminate those ‘good ole boy’ coasting jobs from their career sectors.

I agree with paying the hard shitty jobs more, but you need to penalize corporations and executives for the wage gaps and then prevent them from outsourcing jobs to overseas. And even then, it might have negative consequences all around.

I agree with your last statement, but once again, that takes years of human conditioning to get everyone on that same page.
I agree with many of the points here.

Society needs a massive overhaul and it's nice to finally see people at least trying to make America great again.

Skilled trade is the way to go these days.

The wages some laborers make compared to a typical college grad is ridiculous. If a young person were to ask me, I'd steer them towards a trade school instead of a university. Skilled trade workers are making a killing these days.

They likely still aren't paid enough but completely agree with the rest of this.
