Facebook has always been owned by MetaPlatforms. Now it will begin doing its new business under the name Meta. But Facebook is not going anywhere. The Facebook brand has lost some of its cache and the board realized it would be better off to just let Facebook brand live on its own and be moved down the food chain. META will ensure Facebooks has a long, slow and painless death.
Meta (like Alphabet is to Google) will now give Zuck and friends the chance to move into some of the most advanced technology on the planet. If you think Facebook has computing power to "do things" with content - you ain't seen nothing yet. They are calling it a SOCIAL TECHNOLOGY COMPANY. Look out folks - here it comes.

Virtual reality is virtually here. The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world.
