People will still believe that flying planes into high rise buildings, killing thousands including people jumping out of the buildings rather than burning to death, is much better than an unarmed protest which one person lost their life. (who was also not armed)

He knows that isn't true and so does everybody else who sees/hears it.

People will say these outlandish things when they know they are not true, because they want the attention. They either want to drum up business (clicks, ad revenue, etc) so they say something that will drive traffic to their site, or they just want attention online in general. These days, with so many voices online and so many opportunities for everybody to speak their mind, only the things that stand out get the attention.
