The 5 Bourbon Commandments

1. It must be made in the United States. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t have to be made in Kentucky, although 95 percent of the world’s supply is.

2. Aging must take place in a new, charred, oak barrel. Whiskey can be aged in used barrels and often is. The bourbon must be aged for at least two years to be considered a straight bourbon.

3. The mash must be at least 51 percent corn.

4. The whiskey cannot enter the barrel at higher than 125 proof. It cannot enter the bottle at a proof less than 80.

5. Nothing can be added but water and only to lessen the proof when necessary. Other whiskeys can add color and flavor. Not bourbon, it must be au naturel.

Buddy letting me borrow his kubota
I need a 50-75$ of good stuuf. Tag me on what to buy please. I was thinking Eagle reserve maybe.

I'm not sure where to start here, but I know I LOVE me some bourbon on the rocks. If there is some Buffalo Trace available I'll drink that all day. Otherwise, gimmie some Makers Mark, Bullit, Woodford, or Basil Hadens.

I'm not a huge bourbon drinker, but do like it from time to time. Good list OP.

My 2 cents is that Four Roses Small Batch is the best for the money, and as good as bourbons that cost 3x as much. One of the few cheap ones that I just find delicious.

Buddy of mine got me Smooth Ambler Contradiction for Christmas. I haven't opened it yet. Was wondering if anyone has ever tried it. I'm still working on my Buffalo Trace.

My brother in law is obsessed with bourbon, and can afford all the good stuff. He gave me a bottle of that a couple years ago for Christmas. I found it to be delicious. I don't have the palate to describe it well, but it was very good and very smooth drinking.

Appreciate the response. I think I'll save it for the annual golf trip.

I think it’s tripled in size since then.
Where do you find all of those? Getting them in stores or online razzes etc? A lot of them are fairly available, but quite a few of them aren't very available, unless you're willing to pony up full secondary prices. At least in Vegas that's how it is.

I started about 10 years ago. On my days off touring with bands, I would go bourbon hunting and being fortunate enough to travel everywhere, I managed to find probably 90% of everything at retail. States like Oklahoma, Ohio, North Dakota, Kansas and Texas I have always pulled some great stuff in small off the beaten path towns.

Got a bottle in 2017. Buddy of mine is a distributor and had hell finding me a bottle. Cost me $200 and was the best liquor I’ve ever drank. Saved it for special occasions.

when my nephew got married. When my uncle passed and when my cousin passed.
I would pay $200 all day long for a bottle of 17. Consider yourself a lucky man. People easily pay well over $1000 if they can find one.

Had a great week last week. Picked up 2 1972 Aged 12 years, 2 Larceny Barrel Proofs, a Bardstown Discovery Series #4, a Buffalo Trace 1.75l and a case of Eagle Rare all for retail.

South Florida. Boca area
I'll look around here. I live within spitting distance of about 8 distilleries in the Bardstown area of KY. Our liquor stores usually get some but most people around here don't buy the expensive stuff. If I get some you want me to get a bottle or 2 for you?

When I used to drink many moons ago I drank alot of Early Times,,Jack Daniel's,,and Wild Turkey. LoL Good Memories made with the help of all 3
