How much is everyone keeping in their savings / cash?

Seriously, I would have to ask my husband. I know what's in our primary checking and saving, but I never check the other accounts. He doesn't hide anything. It's just that we have a very traditional relationship... he handles the finances. I spend it. 🤣

I am trying to rebuild it. I cashed a few things out to buy our house in cash a few years ago. COVID destroyed my savings last year. That said I keep very little in savings and my savings account is my TDAmeritrade account. Why have money sitting in savings when you can have it actually work for you.

It's definitely nice to have money working for you but it's annoying as fuck to have to switch money from accounts and shit when I should be spending that time enjoying life.

If some people are worried about that extra couple percentage points on the amount they keep in their savings and checking accounts then more power to them I suppose.

Right in my front door SWAT style?
No, you’ll just start paying way more of your earnings for gas and groceries due to the purchasing power being eliminated. And since theyve always lied about the stated inflation rate you won’t even realize what the cause of it is

I like how everyone dismisses inflation even though it was key to the downfall of the Roman Empire

I keep around $10k

If I need more than $10k IMMEDIATELY then I'm in big trouble. I have other ways to get large sums of cash very quickly if I desperately need it. I have a far greater amount of cash in other funds/accounts which I have access to within 2 days. I cannot imagine needing more than $10k on a moments notice. I can live 8 months on that so I'm fine with it.

I pay everything with credit card anyway (And I've probably got $50k on my line which is way more than Ill need), so I have 30 days from purchase date of pretty much anything to get my money moved around. If we lived in an era where places still only accepted debit then I would probably keep closer to $25k liquid.

I feel like that's irrelevant no? Like 100k to me could be a months worth of income, and if that's all I had in savings that'd be pretty weak. I think percentages would honestly be a better topic of discussion because then you can have a talk about asset allocation.

I agree with this comment. It should be percentages of monthly expenses. For me I keep around 800ish% of my monthly expenses liquid.

Thanks. Had no clue inflation existed until you just brought it up. Sounds super spooky.

Can you explain to me why the sun disappears every night after you post how much you keep in your savings / cash?

I'd rather know how much folks keep available as a flat #.

Asset allocation strategies can be Googled. Personal choice is much more interesting.

For research porpoises of course.
