Just watched this movie for the first time. Anyone want to explain to me what the heck this movie is about? I feel like my mind has been run through the wringer.

SignUp Now!Movie was great stylistically, but I have no clue as to the plot and conclusion. A lot to unpack there. My take is that he knew that he was in a time loop and he used the time he had left to better the world around him. Very trippy. I’ll have to watch it again after I’ve had a little less scotch. He was like a reverse ghost and there was some kind of parallel universe connection going on
I’ve got to rewatch and I’ll report back
I listened to Mad World on repeat..alone in the dark coming down off a psilocybin trip years backI love that movie.
I watched it one time after coming off a massive amphetamine binge and it changed me forever.
Well said! This is my favorite movie. I've seen it a sad amount of times.
Spoiler Alert, do not read if you haven't seen it.
Donnie is supposed to be killed by the jet engine. Because he sleep walks to the golf course, he upsets the natural order of the universe. Him being alive will eventually cause the universe to collapse on itself, ending the world.
Frank (the guy in the rabbit suit), becomes Donnie's guide to leading Donnie to correct things. Donnie has visions where he sees Frank. Frank leads Donnie to flood the school so Donnie can meet Gretchen and walk her home. Frank causes Donnie to burn down Jim Cunningham's house, revealing his child porn dungeon to police. This causes Rose to accompany Samantha and Sparkle Motion on the trip to Star Search, putting them on the plane that's going to crash, which incentivizes Donnie more.
When Gretchen is killed by living Frank, Donnie kills him. Donnie then watches as the vortex forms over his house signaling the collapse and the plane hits it. Donnie then uses Roberta Sparrow's instructions to time travel, creating a parallel universe and putting himself back in his room seconds before the jet engine falls. Order restored.
Gretchen and everyone else has residual memory of the other universe, hence the final scenes with Gretchen and Rose recognizing each other but not knowing from where, Jim feeling guilty, etc.
There's actually a lot more to it than that but since I'm not trying to write a novel, that's the ELI5.
I find this kinda funny and I find it kinda sadI listened to Mad World on repeat..alone in the dark coming down off a psilocybin trip years back
Nailed it……for summation. I too didn’t want to write this novel. This is my favorite movie. I've seen it a sad amount of times.
