Do you know the answer to the symbolism?

Well the Republican-Democrats where labeled jackasses during a slur towards Jefferson, and many years later once the whigs dissolved, another paper labeled the new Republican Party separate from democratic republicans as elephants standing on the edge of a cliff, and that’s pretty much it.
Basically if your a Republican, you actually started as a Democrat.
If your a Democrat you once held our same views and values that we should uphold the constitution and keep states and feds separate, and never allow the feds power to rule.
FYI, it wasn’t until FDR that we came to this, the Democrats happened to be very conservative and the todays republicans surged with Reagan, however I would like to point to the fact that since the late 1800’s and since, it’s been known that Democrats will do anything and everything to win an election.
History is your friend, and you can learn a shit ton from it.
