Clearwater Beach spring break

Third year in a row I’ve taken the family to CB for SB. We like it because it (was) family friendly, the beach is beautiful, and it’s close to a lot of attractions like Phillies spring training.

This year we noticed here and there larger groups of young kids of a certain color. This is unusual here. Tonight, on a walk to eat, we noticed a lot more of these groups…loud and unfiltered. We end up sitting outside to eat across from the beach.

Suddenly, people start running…down the sidewalk, from the beach, and from the restaurant. Cops everywhere and later crime scene tape down the street. Turns out someone was shot multiple times on the second floorof the Surf Style store. We’ve been there several times over the years. Families cut through this store on the way to the beach.

Just found out this was the second shooting here this week. If you haven’t been here, CB is tiny and laid back. I doubt we’ll be back. Other things about this area are going downhill as well.

Civility and concern for others is at an all time low in this country.

Only way to get away from them during this time of year is to go to an expensive property with a private beach, but even that doesn't work sometimes. One thing I know for certain is that I have more money than 99% of them, so if I go to the beach I'm going to places they can't afford. It's funny how when you're that age you think these property managers are assholes for not wanting spring breakers around, but then when you get older you understand why. They can't handle their alcohol, they walk around trying to fight everyone even though 99.9% of them can't fight for shit, and they have a penchant for destroying stuff.

I don’t know the history of CB but it’s apparent they sold their soul long ago. They build hotels and condos on every available space. There are still plenty of nice homes and local spots here, you just have to find the right spot (like north beach).

I still like it. And I have said to my family I could live there. It’s close to so many activities/events, yet you can be laid back if you want. It appears the problem is kids coming across the bay during spring break. I would guess the locals will take care of that.
