Dammit. I have a good Bobby story. At least best I remember it. I usually only slept about 4 hours/night at BBall camp when I was a kid.

I went to IU basketball camp back around '87 or '88. We had this kid on our floor that would let you give him a swirly for money. The first day it was just $1 or $5 to flush his head in a clean urinal. It went up the 2nd day to people offering more money if they could piss in it.

So on the 3rd morning you always meet at the gym for a lecture before you break off for drills. Bobby brought the dude up that let people give him a swirly.

Now you would think he would bitch about people taking advantage of this dumb kid.... he went the complete opposite way. 6th or 7th grade kid in front of 200 to 300 people and National coach of the Year and 2 titles says.... "this young man is extremely stupid. He might be dumbest son of a bitch that i've had at one of our camps. I pray this young man figures some things out in life before he gets much older. I think of all the dumb things I've seen kids do and none come close to this young man. He's going to run up and down steps until he learns his lesson. I hope the rest of you learn from his mistake".

Now several of us knew what the kid had done. A lot didn't, so we were all telling the story real quick and the whole camp started laughing. One of the coaches I guess thought he should get Bobby to tell us to not laugh or take it easy on the kid (couldn't hear what he said) but Bobby yelled out... "I don't give a shit if it hurts his feelings".

And then it was back to regular camp. Never brought up again.

That's a great story.

Season on the Brink and Playing for Knight are two of the best books I ever read.
