My 16yo niece thinks that George Washington was a horrible human and one of our worst presidents. My dad and I about shit when she said it. We asked how the hell do you get that hot take and she said that's what they taught in school.

I teach about all the precedents he set, his warnings in his farewell address that were very ominous and pretty spot on and his humility. He could’ve ruled this country however he wanted, but he deferred to others opinions and expertise.
I do also teach them how as a young man he was full of piss and vinegar and wanted to be in the British army and almost single handedly started the French and Indian war bc of his youthful ambition and inexperience. He however learned from his failures and applied all of that as an adult during the revolution. He is a great example of someone who “knew what they didn’t know” and wasn’t too proud to acknowledge it. Unlike these fuck face politicians today who claim expertise on everything (like bartenders claiming expertise on the environment).
