• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Amazon is about to share your internet connection with neighbors

Can they do this if I have an aftermarket wifi router with encryption? Im an idiot with tech and just bought it because randoms said it was more secure.

It does it outside the security layer of your router using Amazon devices, such as the Echo. So, yes they can do this and you need to disable the Sidewalk feature per device in the Amazon Alexa app.

How do you disable? I have read the directions but when I go into the app and select settings there is no sidewalk option on mine.

They’re doing this again? Was posted a week ago,

I see benefits because this screws over the cable company.

otoh wait till you get charged because your creepy neighbor downloads underage pics thru your internet connection.

Shit I was wanting to get a Ring.
You can easily turn off the sidewalk feature on the ring camera.

Nest and Blink are good home camera options as well. Blink is completely wireless and runs off batteries for long period of time.
