Millions face eviction as moratorium nears end

This will be a complete shit show but at least Joe "Jimmy Carter" Biden should be able to handle it.


The White House on Thursday called on Congress to pass legislation to extend the federal eviction moratorium past Saturday, when it is scheduled to expire after a ruling from the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in June to allow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to keep its eviction moratorium in place until July 31, saying that Congress would have to authorize any further extension.

There are many Moms and Pops who are getting screwed royally because of this. It's not the find and flip investors. It's the retirees who bought houses over their working years to have something to fund their retirements. They made the payments throughout their working years to have free and clear houses with steady income for their later years. Now, many of these people must sell their houses at a discount in order to offset the income they counted on and are not getting by these eviction moratoriums. Many of these same people living rent free are also getting unemployment and the extra $600 a week for the past year.

It's getting ready to get worse for the homeowner. Part of the new transportation bill is to federalize local zoning laws to take away city restrictions on new low-income apartments and by disallowing large lot housing. They want to dictate to cities that it will be OK to put small apartments (up to 6 units) next door to your home. Too many local zoning laws prohibit these types of housing so as to keep neighborhoods intact and keep property values steady and to secure your investments. It's viewed as discriminatory to not allow the poor and chronically unemployed to live in nice neighborhoods.

I assume it's somewhere in the Dept of Transportation appropriations bill for the coming year. The really "juicy" stuff gets buried deep inside the thousands of pages which no Congressman reads with the hope it gets passed before someone in the industry it effects finds it.
Ok was just curious because I’ve been reading this for a couple years and I was wondering if it was finally coming to fruition.

I have no sympathy for those being evicted starting 8/1. They are and have been living rent free while the owner's are having to make mortgage payments, pay taxes, insurance, and maintenance both normal and from deliberate destruction of the property without any revenue to make those payments. There are plenty of help wanted signs all over if these people really wanted to work. But, why work when they aren't having to pay normal living expenses.

As an aspiring real estate investor, this pleases me greatly. Good deals are hard to come by, and having a shit ton of houses flood the market would be a good thing.

Meh. States have literally billions of dollars in their coffers to address this exact problem through the CARES Act. It’s taking awhile to get it out for various reasons but any property owner that’s being patient and willing to wait it out will get everything that’s owed to them plus a month or two paid in advance.

I'm not so sure. Lots of stuff being forced down people's throats today that couldn't happen during Obama. It's go all in on every loony idea the Socialibdems have dreamed about for decades. Who would have ever thought local, state and the federal governments would sit back and watch their cities be destroyed, in fact, encouraged it? Who would have throat the federal government would deliberately try to tank segments of our economy? There are some sinister forces at work. They watched Obama piss off 2 years of total control and vowed to never let that happen again. It would not surprise me to see the feds eventually decide to commandeer a portion of IRAs or bank accounts from people. Easy to do with the one or two computer entries.

No sympathy from me either. The people that have been buying PS4's instead of paying rent are going to go on a rampage when this happens. Keep thy head on a swivel when this happens, August is a prime rioting season. Heat affects people psyche like nothing else.

We had a kid show up to work in his boxer shorts. I told him he had to go home and put on actual pants. He said "go ahead and fire me then. Im not going all the way home and driving back here".... I told him he had to leave regardless and he said "fuck it. I quit"...

These people are so pampered that they don't realize how crazy they've become. Darwin would of taken care of most of these pussies in the past but we've created such a safe society that absolute weak, pathetic, pussies can thrive in this society.

I've been inside thousands of Sec 8 apartments/homes. Most are not living in poverty. Almost all have nice TVs, computers, stereos, furniture, and other necessities. And decent transportation. I don't think beer, liquor or drugs are necessities for those receiving Sec 8 vouchers, food stamps, AFDC, medical care and other gov't handouts and I've seen lots of that stuff in those residences.

Some of you are not at home in a free nation. You'd have been much more comfortable in Mao's China. The lack of respect for private property would have been shocking in year's past, but now, commonplace.

Very few people have an excuse for not being able to pay their rent as of now. If they're facing eviction, it's because they've asked for it. It's not real estate investors' job nor concern to involuntarily donate their wealth to people unwilling to work.

I think it’s odd to assume that everyone who is behind rent in one way or another isn’t working.

Plenty of folks lost jobs for months, and couldn’t get unemployment, but are working now as just one example.

73M employed Americans live paycheck to paycheck.

The last time I looked it was roughly 11M people who were behind and covered under the moratorium with states that removed the unemployment benefits, such as SC, being the hardest hit (29% of renters in that state).

Sure there are plenty of lazy fucks out there but Bidenflation is killing everyone.

Id be curious to know how many people would feel differently if we knew how many of these folks who are behind are working currently or if folks would just rather hurt the economic recovery further by making all these folks homeless.

God knows I dislike pores as much as the next guy but I’m already struggling to get my fries and other services in a reasonable way with the work shortage.

All joking aside it’s easy to see how those folks not having a home and being able to work is a national security threat to the country (via economic health) where as landlords having to wait for reimbursement is more accurately described as an inconvenience.

I agree we do not need a new homeless crisis but I also have seen people come in to my shop ask what starting pay is and leave.
I personally know of 6 people that are still collecting unemployment rather than going to get a job.
I personally know 11 companies behind on rent to business landlords bc they cannot get enough work done to pay bills.
These are all real world problems due solely to lockdown nonsense and government over reach in paying people to stay home. It is directly impacting your French fry waiting time and my ability to get materials in a reasonable amount of time
