Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).
Why has it fallen on Joe Manchin to save the country from disaster the last two years (link)....

They need to expand the ports and rail system badly.
The one bright spot of the Biden presidency has been his infrastructure deal.
And he outs himself. The Keynesian is back!

I’m not sure what you mean by “back” or the idea that Keynesian economics have anything to do with the need to expand American ports and railways?
Can I see receipts for expansion.
Our ports are more disfunctional than they’ve ever been…
And no idea on railways.

Of course they are dysfunctional when they are run by greedy unions in blue states and Biden is president. Current dysfunction is all the more reason to modernize, expand, and make them more efficient.
I’m sure in a couple years you’ll have all the receipts you could ever want.
Obviously I hate that unions will be strengthened with that money, and that’s it’s not nearly enough funding for rail, ports, roads, piping, ect. but it’s a start.
