They have new reactor designs that use a plug to hold the fuel rods in place that is only solid while coolant is in the reactor and everything is running normal. However if the reactor overheats for any reason the plugs melt and the fuel rods fall into containment chambers that can hold them long term.
This is called passive safety. These new designs are meltdown proof. Well they can "melt down" but they melt into a safe state.
Remember that 1 trillion dollar green energy bill passed by 0biden? He should have spent all of it rebuilding our nuclear power plants to use these new designs. There are still first-generation plants like the ones at Fukushima being used that will kill everyone if they are deprived of coolant, and there's no excuse for that.
All of our nuclear plants should have passive safety. If humans vanish from the earth the remnants of our civilization shouldn't destroy all other life. Unfortunately right now that is the case.
Nuclear could last us forever. We will never run out and it is reliable. There's just the safety issue but we can overcome that. The green energy bill shouldn't have been spent on developing intermittent power infrastructure like wind and solar. We need reliable power that delivers constant power 24/7.
In order to make a lot of "green" power work as infrastructure they need to build massive battery complexes to store power when they aren't generating and that makes them not green anymore.

IT's mofo's like the last guy that don't understand war. We thought Russia couldn't destroy Ukraine because they didn't. Now that Ukraine launched offensives and hit Russian proper targets they are getting everything destroyed. Now people are saying they are destroying everything because they can't win the battles.
People can move goal post all they want but the trajectory of this is Ukraine loses. The only question is how much of Ukraine is left and how far into recession Europe goes. If Ukraine is given missiles to hit large pop centers or electric in Russia.... War will escalate. I don't think people like that last twitter dude understand shit can get worse for Ukraine, Europe and the US.
