refrain from speaking publicly about this issue. just stop talking about it entirely. I hope that message wasnt sent in mass to every single user on the website. We need to acknowledge the issue, but any public word MUST be discussed with the entire staff. This is not something to make a joke about. This is a seriously big problem.

Too late, it was a mass email. This is how we've handled these sorts of things from the beginning.

If something bad happens when you are dealing with a user base, the general rule of thumb is to make a simple:

"We have encountered an issue and are working to resolve it to the best of our ability."

Going fourth that must be the golden standard. There is nothing but negative outcomes from sharing more information. If for some reason more information must be shared, it NEEDS to be discussed with everyone first.

Not sure what exactly happened here, but this @JerBearr dude makes a fair point, though the delivery seems unnecessarily aggressive. Like an angry parent scolding a child.
