I found this article on another website that I read and it was interesting enough of a concept to click the article. CLIFFS: An MIT researcher in 1972 predicted that in the mid 21st century we would experience a stop of growth with numerous other factors contributing to what the author calls a collapse of society as we know it. Now with nearly 50 years of data, the prediction seems to be on track to come to fruition. What are ya'lls thoughts?

That’s interesting consider that nasa has their main launch facility on an island an elevation of like 1’.

the US does give me hope that worst come to worst a peaceful secession can take place. The left and right are so different rn culturally that there’s no way that rift is bridged

So if the left gets their way and we go 100% opposite of a constitutional republic and the government rounds up "enemies of the state".... You still think that? What if they won't let you leave with your toys.... which socialist countries are 100% prone to do? Just leave and forget all the years you and your family have worked to get what you got?

People are lucky they're even able to leave when they want. That's not very common in states across this globe regardless of being able to take property or not.

You can count me in the never leaving group though. America is too great.

The enemy of the state & loading them on trains rubbish is just that.

It would be much more likely a state like California would try to secede and we would need step in remind them that's no bueno.

You wouldn’t go anywhere else, you would rely on your state infrastructure and severely limit the bargaining power of the federal gov

Secession is just creating a problem in an attempt to "solve" a made up problem of "political polarization".

Again, if you think things are so divided or bad then it's on you to walk away or to do the hard work of solving things within the system.

I’m more just realizing you’re not a guy that ever goes outside your box of acceptable opinion at all. Your anger at all secession or even any sort of line against pulling power away from the feds makes no sense to me, especially given you admitting in another thread “all leftists just want me dead these days.” There’s space in the middle to have a conversation, but you literally post civil war generals and liken it to “bitching out” immediately

I don’t know if it’s just you enjoy arguing or when you have a point you like to stick to it or what, but you don’t really understand how discussions work

We are just going to disagree on this. I don't consider myself lucky that I can leave if my constitutional republic is turned into a socialist hell hole. America isn't great because of the longitude and latitude on a map. Its our constitution and the free market that makes this piece of land great. Take those 2 things away and it'll be just as bad here as Venezuela within a decade.

If you are left with leave or fight the socialist then I'd fight before I'd leave. But if enough people are in the "aw shucks, we lost and we just have to live with it because... muh democracy".... Leaving is gonna hurt wayyy less in the long run.

They really didn't though.

Those same dudes later wrote The Constitution and it's doesn't say anything about dissolving it or states being able to leave it.

It's pretty clear they didn't feel those words and sympathies applied to The Constitution and especially not because a small minority didn't like the current state of affairs.

Do you not pay attention to what is happening right now. They are trying to overthrow The Constitution and it might just come down to war and the result of that war might just be the formation of two countries which will require secession.

I really don't think their goal is the formation of two separate countries regardless of what you think their intentions are about The Constitution.

Certainly if they would try to form a separate country it would be our job to treat that the same way Sherman did Georgia.

If someone calling themselves a "conservative" or "patriot" is making such a suggestion then it's just a lazy troll. Patriots love the country they actually live in, not some imaginary secessionist land and no "conservative" wouldn't want to preserve The United States. It might have some flaws, including some difference in political opinion, but this is still BY FAR the greatest country on earth.
