just finished Chasing the Squirrel - The Pursuit of Notorious Drug Smuggler Wally Thrasher and really enjoyed it. Highly recommend.
Somebody please give me a recommendation for my next read. Same genre- non fiction and crime. Entertaining main character a plus
Erik Larson is a superb and masterful storyteller who writes non-fiction. Go for this one, you won't be disappointed.
This book seems like appropriate material for this board.https://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Economic-Hit-John-Perkins/dp/0452287081 - fabulous book. This guy basically worked for the Cabal
I just finished it. Remarkable story. How he got away with that is amazing. The tie ins with the World's Fair were fascinating as well. The amount of everyday things that came from that is amazing. Really cool book. This is a true story about what one mad did to satisfy his lust for murdering women and disposing of their bodies. It is hard to believe it is true. I am surprised they have not made of movie of it. No shit - it was a book I could not put down.![]()
Thanks man. This is exactly what I am looking for. It’s next on my list.
I saw those lions in a museum in Chicago. I was not impressed. Love that movie tho.Just finished reading this-

It is the true story behind the movie The Ghost and the Darkness, written by the man who was building the railroad and killed the 2 man-eating lions. Most of the good stuff was in the first 70 pages, then it is just an interesting read on hunting & living in the African bush in the late 1800s.

Ya, I figured it had something to do with it being so long ago. They just looked small and frail to me as a kid expecting to see 2 bear sized lions. They were obviously eating good at the time so I'm sure they were a lot bigger than portrayed in the display at the museum. Cool to see nonetheless. The skins were apparently not well taken care of and the mounts are not impressive. Their death toll was impressive, killing perhaps over 100 rail workers in something like 6-8 months. That movie was pretty accurate in its details, surprisingly. Only difference being Val Kilmer's character killed the lions himself, not needing Michael Douglas to help.
Really any of Larson's books are exceptional. I've read pretty much everything he's written so far. I would say add The Splendid and the Vile to your list.
