So this weekend I did some minor computer upgrades. New fans, new thermal solution, and a second 1TB M.2 SSD.

After it was all assembled the computer wasn't turning on. Turns out I bent 2 cpu socket pins. Yikes. I had to use hobbyist magnifying helmet and a needle nose tweezer in order to bend the cpu pins back correctly. I never want to do that again. That was very scary, especially when working with a $500 worth of motherboard and cpu....

I went with a thermal pad on my cpu. Big mistake. My thermal tests we immediately showing 100 deg c. Well not my computer is SOL until the 6th when my thermal paste comes in the mail. Post your setup below!

I did my first build earlier this year. Took like 8 hours, but I got it fucking posted. Still need to add a cooling system, but i'm not playing any high end games atm, so i'm not worried about it. I was playing AC Valhalla when I upgraded and had no overheating issues. Still want to add one eventually.

Had an extra computer that I disassembled with my two boys the other day. They had fun taking it apart and I thought it was pretty educational talking about the different parts of the computer and what they do. Win for everybody.

Hope to build my own computer one day. I’ve changed / added hard drives but that’s about as far as I have gotten.

What’s the main advantage? Overclocking for video games? I need super stability and reliability and that prevented me from trying in the past. I haven’t minded paying a little extra to make sure it was working correctly etc.

Building a computer will not give you poor reliability. It's not recommended to use unknown name computer parts, but those really aren't relevant in the computer world. The only thing you could conceivably screw up is putting In a Chinese power supply. All over components are pretty standard... Though you could very easily put in poor performance parts if you don't do your research. I'd recommend anyone build with full confidence and no worry if you have the motivation because it'll be cheaper for you and you can fully customize.... Spend less on the ram and more in leds, spend less on leds and more on performance, etc.... If you buy a pre-built you pay more because they up charge the parts, charge you for building labor, and add in things you otherwise wouldn't have spent money on.

Yeah...mine went haywire in the coding too...apparently when I was trying to program it to fuck me 24/7.....I wasn’t specific....wife gave it away after 12 holes in the wall and both our dogs are pregnant....(still confused on the male dog....but guess we just have to wait for the surprise.)

Yeah honestly right now you get what you can get. I decided I dont want to upgrade to the new 30 series because I have a 2080ti, so I'm not stressing over hardware upgrades. Feels good haha
