Meh. Looks a lot like the F-35 in the picture. Maybe the sale of the S400 to Turkey is paying off for the Russians? I can't wait to hear how this new plane will "destroy" F35's *(that I assume will have been flying for 20 years by the time this plane is ready), a lot like how the SU-57 is supposed to be "better" than the F-22 (that entered service in 2005). Which is laughable since the last article I read said the SU57 still couldn't supercruise with its current engines, and that it had the radar cross section of an unloaded F-18. I would bet the US builds 50 6th gen fighters (one of which is supposed to have already flown) before Russia produces 50 5th gens of any type.

Will be interesting to follow though. I love aerospace shit.

Didn't it also have to carry less fuel to be able to dog fight which shortened the time it could actually stay in a fight?

Sounds familiar, you should ask the guy above this post though. I'm just a youtube "expert" that did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
I can't remember if it was the china ripoff or the russian one. I do remember hearing that it was so under powered from its engines that it couldn't carry bombs or external fuel tanks and dogfight any American fighter.

I believe the one China unveiled is referred to by most of the world as a 4.5 generation fighter not a true 5th gen. Russia’s stealth fighter can’t do anything, and they can’t seem to find the $$$ to fix it’s many issues.

You telling me the guys that brought you hits like the woke military, the VA, General Milley, imaginary WMD’s, and the 20 year shit show in Iraq/ Afghanistan, can actually compete with a competent adversary?

And maybe on paper our shit is better. In theory it could be better. In reality our shit is likely over engineered, and the resources procuring the cool toys are mismanaged and neglecting the necessary less fun tools it takes to win wars.

I think it is fairly common knowledge that our yearly military budget gets fairly little bang for its buck

Disagree to a degree with this, the 360 battle field helmet and Network Ops on the F-35 make it very deadly. Basically they work as nodes in a battlefield interfacing with other F-35 and ground forces to get a field of view given to the pilots HUD that is unparalleled. Very interesting stuff. So if another strike group picks up an enemy SAM or fighter it relay's that info to all other pilots.

Still cannot hold a candle to the F-22 Air superiority and low radar signature but it is an excellent multi role fighter and while one on one the F-35 may not shine when you place a couple of squadrons in a battle field they would know if a eagle farted 100 miles away. Biggest issue with the F-35 has been political and administrative.

I think the Air Force has about 300 right now and out number it's F-15 fleet but still half of it's F-16 fleet.

Germans over engineered some crazy shit and look where that got them. Problem with these weapons is they get blown up or broken down within the first few months of a real war. Then you can’t replace and fix them quickly enough to take the initiative.

Im not saying the stuff we have built isn’t cool. It’s just missing long term constant replacement viability in large scale conflict. We sort of preyed on that concept in WW2 when the Germans were building Panther and Tiger tanks that broke down and couldn’t be replaced. Sherman tanks on the other hand could be knocked out easier, but they were reliable, easy to build, and easy to repair. Where the Germans had something like 6k Panther tanks, we had 50k Sherman’s.

Same shit is going to happen to us. And it’s fitting considering how much we’ve based our military on the German model post WW2. It’s not a bad model per se, it’s just not viable long term.

The idea of a long term super power war is pretty far fetch given how intertwined countries are now. Small battles but if shit really does get real between us and China it will not be along term engagement like in WW2. If we stopped shipping them food and cut off their access to oil they either cave or launch nukes. Russia and India both hate China so just don't see a scenario where that happens.

Do agree about quantity over tech, it's what cost the Nazi's the conflict with Russia. But if you can tactically take out an ability to feed your people or gas your fleet you have won. Germans found that out in WW2 when the Allied shut down their Oil production and shipping.

its the air-air missiles it can carry that is the worry. The Chinese PL15 paired with the J20 is very formidable. The Russian newer missiles are very good

Yep, and looks like they designed this bad boy to be cheap and mass producible.

Guessing that is an air intake under the cockpit which shows the Russians still have not grasped the concept of a low radar cross section and smoothed edges for stealth.... Bet it is no more stealthy than the F-15EX
