Headed to yellowstone, Whitefish and Flaming gorge in October for a month long trip with my travel trailer and the big booty princess.

bought a Nikon 5300 already, just because I got it used and in good condition for 300 bones and I've always like Nikon.

I need to figure out lenses and good lord it's like learning chinese. these fuckers made nothing simple in regards to dslr cameras. I would like something not expensive and i'm totally willing to buy used off amazon like I did my camera.

I'm leaning towards this for my long distance wildlife shots

I'm completely lost on anything landscape, ya'll help me out if you know this stuff.

Apparently wide angle lenses are expensive, if anyone knows a decent aftermarket version I'd be interested

I have a 300 dollar Motorola that's better than an iphone.
Better is a relative term. There are things such as convenience, speed, quality and about 12 other advantages to having an iPhone. I have a fat Nikon digital hog too - took it with me one time and it hasn't left the house again.

Maybe your experience will be better.

Good luck with the updates that purposely destroy your battery. I go two to three days on a charge

Op, that setup will be fine.. if you really like photography after this trip then you’ll go down the rabbit hole of camera porn, spend huge amounts of money on camera gear, who knows start shooting real porn, possibly get divorced over all of this only to realize this original camera and lens was all you really needed.
It’s all about the lighting and composition… also there are three options, shutter speed, aperture and iso (how fast to write the image to memory) settings…. How many controls does the modern video game have? 20? You’ll figure it out.. lol
Be sure to post pics from the adventure.

You can rent high dollar lenses for short periods of time. Save some money, or just test a few out to see what you want before committing the money.

Whatever you go with, take a lot of time practicing with the thing. Play with ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture in your living room until you get a feel for what each does. Watch a video or two on these settings to get a good idea while you play with it. Familiarize yourself before getting out in the field.

OR just put it in auto mode.

You can find good lenses that aren’t Nikon brand that might save some loot. Check bhphotovideo.com and search lenses with Nikon F mount.

edit to add: still not cheap. Photog equipment is pricy, but you might save some money on brands like sigma and tamron. The good news is Nikon accessories are cheaper than canon, but photography can be an expensive hobby.

No sigma is a brand of slr camera lenses. They make lenses with mounts for most popular dslr cameras.
