11 min each way they said today. Was a cool watch.
Just think of all the math and obsessive planning involved to control the rover from Earth when it takes 11 minutes to send/receive a command, assuming no issues.
These folks are as methodical as can be......
Said the landing area could be scanned and a landing solution figured out by the rover independently of NASA via prior satellite scans and external cameras and pre-programmed instructions. That part in particular blew my mind.
If that doesn't look like prime landscape for a liberal only colonization, I don't know what to tell you.

I think the images and things take longer because they need to be relayed via another orbiting craft that can process the signal and send it back here.
