Man was behind a fence shooting a high powered rifle in celebratory fashion into the aid. Unknown to the man firing the shots, A policeman is on the scene.

The policeman had been called and did not know much else other than the man was rapid firing into the air. The cop then shot through a fence, without being able to see the target, and killed the man shooting.

Weird situation and feel bad for the cop. He is going to be under some heat. @BLatta12

Yeah, the dude shooting into the air was clearly putting people at risk (those bullets have to land somewhere) and violating the gun laws as he is in a city. It also seems as if he shot 47 plus times in less than 15 seconds.

That being said, Im not sure how wise it is to shoot without seeing your target. Did this happen on new years? If so that would add another factor that maybe the cops should have had some leeway.

Did the guy not know the cops were there?

If not why the fuck is the cop blindly unloading into a fence, even if there are shots being fired?

Dumb on both sides, but the cops dumb decision resulted in a fatality.

Never said a word to get compliance. I think the cop is at fault. Shooting behind a fence?
Hard one to call but the cop should not have unloaded.

That was my initial thought. But Cops have such a shit job .... He makes a mistake and is supposed to be fired and / or go to jail because he took out someone egregiously violating the law?

Getting shot without warning doesn't seem warranted, but neither does the cop being severley punished.

Would like to know more details like if it was new years or not? why was the cop there in the first place? Did a neighbor report he had been shooting and what other details were reported in the call?

I don't think the guy shooting knew the cops were there. That being said, even if the cop had said "Police!!!" there is no way the guy shooting the gun would have been able to hear him.

You said it when you said cops have such a shit job. With all the scrutiny they have been put under the past few years it’s made it 10x worse. You just can’t win if you are a cop. Did any more details come out of this?

Exactly. If you were a cop you probably turn a blind eye to 90% of the shit you see because you don't want to deal with it. Its part of the reason the crime rate is soaring.
