Any of you guys have high cholesterol? If so, what are you doing about it? I had some bloodwork done a few months back, and it came back with above the recommended values for LDL. I've since gotten back on a more regular workout regimen, but just wondering what other things you have done to lower it.

Some things I've seen that can be helpful are:
1. Lowering carb intake
2. More cardio exercise
3. Fasting.

Thanks in advance

when you say "above normal" what do you mean? And how old are you?

I learned that high cholesterol is 80% genetics and 20% environment. When i first got tested mine was at 270 ish- and the doc said i could have 5% body fat and still be at risk. I ended up pretty quickly on a lipid to get it under control. Still do all the other stuff to the best of my ability but there was no good way from getting out from taking a med...

I don’t have a regular doctor or do regular doctors visits. Usually just go see one when something is wrong.

Probably will bite me in the ass one day but the old adage If it ain’t broke don’t fix it applies here.

Never had a finger stuck up my butt either. Maybe I’m missing out?

Not familiar with that type of rice. Doesn't the carbs typically raise your LDL? At least that's what I've seen, but maybe not with this specific type

It’s a supplement in pill form.

I think combined was like 230 or so, but the LDL was definitely the higher of the 2. Can't remember specifically, but they want it to be under 100. Maybe 150 or so? Mid 40's age. Dr. wanted to get me on a lipid, but I need to do more research before I start shoving pills down my throat.

I did, and am going to get another check in 6 months or so. It could have been elevated at that time due to diet or something else, but we'll see. In the mean time, planning to drop 15-20 pounds and see what else I can do naturally to lower it.

I'm pretty much the same way with Dr's visits, but had some health issues this year that resulted in me going in.

As for the 3rd item, you'll have to consult with your wife about that one. :ROFLMAO:

If you get put on a statin use CoQ10 supplement or you'll feel like you have just worked out all the time

Sorry OP, I'm NO HELP on this one as I don't trust or listen to any of the Medical industry anymore so NO I don't participate.

Good Luck OP and hope it doesn't turn into another "WuFlu/FagPox" for you.

Did the lipid bring it down for you? Any side effects?

yeah a lot.

I did what you did. I worked out and ate right like crazy for a while, determined not to take a lipid, and got it from like 270+ to 230 lol. Doc said that so much of it is genetic, you can only control so much. also- my dad had a heart attack in his 50's so there is big history there... I do get occasional joint ache for sure but nothing too crazy.

Good to know, thanks. I'm gonna give it a go naturally for a few months and then see what sort of results I get. May hit you up in the future if I don't get good results.

I have it. Genetic and I am a fat.

Tried Statins. Lasted two weeks and had side effects so I stopped.

Still fat with high cholesterol.

Was the same with stating. Tried different ones, finally could take crestor and no side effects. Cholesterol now runs around 130 total, and I eat pretty much want I want. Do exercise regularly though.

Diet does include maple frosted doughnuts as well

Haha. Same with alcohol. My liver is jacked and I have to quit drinking so it can heal.
My liver numbers seemed to be good. I enjoy beer and whiskey though, so just trying to limit them at the moment. Would probably need to watch it closer if I got on statins.

Obviously, these changes are not instant......but one thing that I drink to regulate many things is:

Ginger Tea (ginger, mango ginger, or lemon ginger)with proportions of honey and lemon or lime juice.

Those three you mentioned are the key. There are no medicines as powerful as diet and exercise.

Also statins.
