• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Have a great Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful to those Americans who had the decency to die in the last year, so that I never have to deal with them again. And I am thankful to those who helped them die, particularly the pharmaceutical companies and the processed foods industry.

Tbh, fucked if I know aye.

Might be related to the supposed fact that according to the (notably vague) official sources (that I could find), there may be anywhere between ~4000 to ~30,000 identifiable US born individuals currently living in NZ permanently.

If you ever get an opportunity to visit, you will quickly find that New Zealanders are (generally) extremely welcoming of US citizens, and definitely aren't shy of going to drastic lengths to accommodate US culture too.

Plus, ya know there's currently at least three subsequent generations (like me) directly descending from the 1942-'43 US-NZ 'war babies'.

I am thankful for your ever truthful posts.

I have been, along time ago. For about 3 days. Pretty place for sure.

Of course the foundation of Thanksgiving is an American holiday, further fucked by commercial interests to sell shit.

Weird that some celebrate it in NZ. Like yall celebrating the 4th of July.

Same as everything else these days really.

Alright. I'll put it another way.
If you moved here, would you still celebrate Thanksgiving?

Most of the NZ population doesn't.
While some of the US expat population do, along with their NZ friends, family & etc. There's plenty pubs & shit that put on dedicated US cultural events especially for US expats.
