No but it always amazes me how many people all over the city I grew up in my parents knew. No matter where I was somebody saw or heard something and it eventually made it back to them.

I think one of the most important things is that Gen X lived before and after the infotech wave of the late 90s and early 2000s. GenX lived during this period, such that they understood the world before and after smart phones and the like.

The difference and or the failure of the next gens is that they do not know the world without the modern stuff, they think it always existed. Of course, the shortcomings of any generation is the failure of the one before.

We had most of the modern conveniences without the soft as baby shit mind set that modern conveniences made out of Gen Z'ers. In HS I could drive 4 hours up to Ohio to go to a concert and camp out overnight and come home in the morning without my parents worrying too much. Hell, I went out to Wyo, from KY, my senior year of HS to go fishing for a week...

Music was good across multiple genres. Movies were freaking awesome back then. America was proud and respected across the globe. It was a great time to grow up.

My first car was a 64 Dodge Polaris. It was a former Army car. It was olive drab green. The only place it shined was where the US ARMY decals were buffed off the doors. I was thrilled to be able to drive to school.
Present day. A co-worker gave me a 2001 Toyota Tundra with 120K miles and every option available. His wife told him to get it out of the drive. Neither of his son-in-laws wanted the truck because of its looks.

While that idea applied to other kids, I don’t know of too many teenagers going around fighting adults who called them out on their bull shit, and let their parents know that their kid was being a ruhtard in public.

I ‘member in HS some Thursday nights we’d drive around at night and if we saw an open garage door we’d sneak in and see if the guy had a beer fridge in there. Stole a bunch of beers that way. Good thing we never got caught, 25-30yrs ago the homeowner would have been completely justified shooting are punk asses, or holding us at gun point until the cops came.

Cops didn’t mess with you much, if they busted up a house party with a bunch of underage drinking, and weed you just got told to go home unless you were an asshole to them. Then they might have you call your parents to come get you. Hell dui’s weren’t that big of a deal back then either. I got mine in late 2001, I basically went to court and plead guilty of being caught, and the judge fined me $250 and gave me 6 months of probation and my probation officer kicked me loose after 3 months.

Pagers were how parents kept track of kids, I had like a 15min window to call them if they wanted to know where I was, they never paged though.

We didn’t have much technology, so we had to create our own fun outside, it was just expected that we’d be outside playing unless we were at school or sleeping. During winter we went to Blockbuster and rented a bunch of movies /games and loaded up on candy, had sleepover weekends. Parents only wanted to see their kids at meals.

I also like the fact that our generation could take a joke.
We could be knocking each other's teeth out 1 day & best of friends the next. We didn't have to pull a gun or knife cuz our feelings gor hurt.
