Bill bought a phone at a store that gave a 20% discount off of it's original price. The total amount that he paid to the cashier was 'x' dollars, which includes an 8% sales tax on the discounted price. Which of the following represents the original price of the phone in terms of 'x'?

A) 0.88x
B) x/0.88
C) (0.8)(1.08)x
D) x/(0.8)(1.08)

Good luck!

Edit to add, no random guesses. You must explain why you chose what you did.

Computer price is irrelevant if the discount was on a phone.

probably wrong but..I will go D

x= original price (0.8 discount)(1.08 tax)
original price = x/(0.8)(1.08)
Nailed it. Good job. I first read it and chose C because I didn't read the question right and see that they wanted to know the 'original' price, and not the price that Bill paid.
